GIRLS ROUNDUP: Northridge too much for Hillcrest

TUSCALOOSA | Northridge’s Sarah Stuart took home MVP honors at the Checkers Invitational girls basketball tournament on a night that saw her team win the tournament by beating Hillcrest on its own floor, 48-37, Tuesday.

Stuart led all scorers with 16 points to go along with five assists. Tori Morgan pitched in with 14 points. KeKe Williams led the Jaguars with 16 rebounds and four blocks.

Hillcrest’s Charity Brown had 10 points on the night.

With the win, Northridge improves to 14-1.

The Jags will play Tuesday against Hazel Green in Cullman.

 

Central 56, Holt 13

HOLT | Central’s Kiara Harton scored a double-double en route to a thrashing of Holt on the road, improving the Lady Falcons’ record to 9-3 on the season.

Harton poured in 12 points and grabbed 13 rebounds on the night. D’Leisha Dent pitched in with 10 points, coming in as the team’s second-leading scorer. Tiffany Washington had nine points.

The Lady Falcons will play nect in the Central Christmas Tournament on Monday.

 

Greensboro 53,

R.C. Hatch 29

GREENSBORO | Malesha Williams led all scorers with 20 points, helping the Raiders upend R.C. Hatch. With the win, Greensboro remains perfect, improving its record to 10-0.

Kasabrian Fields and Shemeka Tubbs also hit double digits for the Lady Raiders, scoring 16 and 10, respectively. Tubbs also pulled down five rebounds.

R.C. Hatch’s Alnecia Abraham scored 10 points on the night.

Greensboro will face Alabama Christian on Tuesday in Wetumpka.

 

Winfield 47, Sulligent 42

WINFIELD | Winfield’s Chalise Garrison hit a 3-point shot with 7 seconds left in regualtion to force overtime against Sulligent. In the extra period, the Pirates scored the last six points.

The win kept Winfield’s record at a perfect 9-0. Sulligent fell to 8-3.

Garrison finished the night with a game-high 29 points and five steals.

Sulligent’s Laura Ashley Dean poured in 16 points and Montana Hawkins pitched in with 10 points of her own.

Winfield will face American Christian Academy on Monday at 5:30 p.m. in the Winfield Christmas Tournament.

 

Akron 70, Autaugaville 17

AKRON | Akron’s Kelvineisha Williams tied Tori Robinson for a team-high 12 points.

Valencia McCain pitched in with 11 points. Raven Fields grabbed 11 rebounds, made five assists, nabbed five steals and scored five points on the night. Kadijah Small had six blocks and eight rebounds.

Autagaville’s Vorlanda Hopson had 10 points.

Akron (8-5) plays Monday in the Central Christmas Tournament against Paul W. Bryant.
