BOYS ROUNDUP: Berry scores overtime victory

HUBBERTVILLE | Jake Smith’s made free throw followed by a missed shot by Hubbertville, sealed a 65-63 overtime win for Berry in a Class 1A, Area 9 boys basketball game against Hubbertville on Friday night.
Neil Sullivan led Berry (8-8, 2-4) with 20 points, including six 3-pointers. He also had five assists with four steals.
Devan Tyree finished with 19 points, nine rebounds, six steals and three assists. Weston Bonner had 14 points.
Tank Hollingsworth finished with 11 points and four assists for Berry.
Hubbertville’s David Aldridge had 20 points. Michael Smallwood and Vess Benton each had 16 points.
Central 46,
Brookwood 40
BROOKWOOD | Demetrius Houston finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds to lead Central over Brookwood (5-14, 2-3) in a Class 5A, Area 6 game.
Javaris Richardson added eight for the Falcons (16-6, 3-2).
Brookwood’s Jaylen Prewitt had a game-high 17 points and seven rebounds. Jackson Cruce had eight points.
Paul W. Bryant 56,
Hale County 42
MOUNDVILLE | Paul W. Bryant, No. 8 in Class 5A, was led by Kevin Holland, who had 19 points and six rebounds.
James Currington finished with 16 points,14 rebounds, six blocks and three steals.
Tony Whitehead had 10 assists for Bryant (16-4, 4-0 area).
Hale County (8-8) was led by Kerry Lewis’ 12 points. Travis Jenkins scored 11. Caleb Crawford finished with 10.
Greensboro 65,
Montevallo 41
GREENSBORO | Willie Parker had 16 points to lead Greensboro (14-3, 4-0) in Class 3A, Area 7.
Karron Tabb had 10 for Greensboro.
Montevallo was led by Eugene Rogers with 12 points. Landon Goodwin had 10 points.
Hillcrest 75,
Bessemer City 38
TUSCALOOSA | It was a total team effort for Hillcrest (13-4, 4-0) in a Class 6A, Area 9 game.
James Thomas and Terrin Buford each had 13 points.
Marcus Matthews and Rayshawn Tubbs added 12 points each for the Patriots.
Sipsey Valley 59,
West Blocton 55
BUHL | Eighth-grader Jamarius Leatherwood tied the school record with 24 points in Sipsey Valley (12-7, 2-0 Class3A, Area 6). Leatherwood also had eight rebounds.
West Blocton was led by Steven Thrasher’s 17 points.
Northridge 52,
Tuscaloosa County 38
TUSCALOOSA | Rufus Williams led the Class 6A, Area 9 game and Northridge (12-10, 3-1) with 18 points to go with 12 rebounds.
David McShan led Tuscaloosa County (0-4 in area play)with 15 points.
Gordo 62, Hamilton 60
HAMILTON | Senior forward Robert Thomas finished with six points and made the game-winning shot to give Gordo (2-8) its second win in three games.
Reid Lancaster finished with 22 points, six rebounds and six assists for the Greenwave.
Aaron Cousette had 10 points and seven rebounds.
Hamilton was led by Mitch Stuits with 21 points.
Francis Marion 75,
Aliceville 52
MARION | Demetrius Bates scored 22 points and had six steals to lead Francis Marion (13-4, 6-1 area).
Kenneth Billingsley added 14 points and five assists.
Aliceville was led by Anfernee Mullins with 13 points. Gerald Sterling had 11 points.
Pickens Academy 46,
Southern Academy 32
CARROLLTON | Josh Lewis scored 21 points in the AISA AA, Region 2 win.
Mark Johnson had 13 rebounds and six points. Sam Beachler scored nine for the Pirates (3-14, 3-1).
Johnny Swindall led Southern Academy with 14 points.
Greene County 52,
Sumter Central 51
YORK | Damian Merriweather hit a game-winning 3-pointer to lead Greene County, No. 2 in Class 4A, past Sumter Central, ranked No. 6 in Class 4A.
Damian Craig led Greene County with 15 points.
Sumter Central’s Dartavis Hogan had 20 points. Julius Maye had eight points, five rebounds and five assists.
Billy Ingram had a team-high 12 rebounds.
Sumter Central plays at Holt tonight at 7:15.

GUIN | Ready Swanigan led Marion County (14-1, 4-0 area) with 24 points.
Collin Roberts and DeShawn Riebeschl each had 12 points. Sean Wallace finished with 11 points and six steals.
Meek’s Jackson Hyde and Jeremiah Banks each scored 11.
