North River Christian falls in opener

MONTEVALLO | Evangel Christian spoiled the CFA eight-man football season opener for North River Christian Academy, defeating the Chargers 62-0 Friday night.
Evangel jumped to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter and scored 14 more points in the second to take a 34-0 halftime lead. It scored 21 points in the third quarter and its final seven in the fourth.
North River Christian was held to three first downs while giving up 18. Quarterback Michael Robertson completed six of eight passes with no interceptions for a total of 15 yards and had 10 carries for 45 yards. North River totalled 58 yards on 16 carries.
Tailback AnFarnee Peterson had six carries for 23 yards. He had a 44-yard kickoff return in the second quarter.
Defensively for North River Christian, lineman Matthew Robertson led the team with 12 tackles, and punter Jeremiah Cousette punted the ball three times for an average of 41 yards a punt with a long punt of 44 yards. The Chargers fumbled the ball five times, losing three, and were penalized twice for a total of 20 yards.
North River Christian (0-1) returns home to host rival Tuscaloosa Christian on Friday.
