GARDENDALE | Jordan Potter threw for two touchdowns and 153 yards but it wasn’t enough as Tuscaloosa Christian lost on the road at Tabernacle Christian 44-20 on Friday. It was the CFA eight-man football season opener for both teams.
Potter completed 9 of 16 passes with two interceptions, but on the ground the Warriors couldn’t get mileage, carrying the ball 20 times for minus 15 yards and three fumbles, though it did not give up any of those fumbles.
Potter completed a 50-yard touchdown pass play to Calloway Newman with about seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter then converted two points on a PAT pass to Caleb Waddell. With about four-and-a-half minutes remaining in the game, Potter threw to Boyd Banks for an 18-yard touchdown. The run failed on that point after attempt.
Banks ended the game with two catches for 48 yards, including his touchdown play. Newman had three catches for 76 yards. Gabe Foster led the defense with nine tackles, and Chasse Cronan had two sacks.
Tuscaloosa Christian (0-1) plays at cross-town rival North River Christian on Friday.
