Huckabee’s late scores lead Marengo Academy to win

TOXEY | Hayden Huckabee scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to lift Marengo Academy to a 13-6 victory over South Choctaw Academy on Friday night in the high school football opener for both teams.
South Choctaw Academy took a 6-0 lead into the final period before Huckabee rambled 78 yards for a touchdown on the opening play of the fourth quarter. Brant Lewis kicked the extra point to put the Longhorns ahead 7-6.
With seven seconds left, Huckabee iced the game with a 55-yard interception return.
Adam Bonner scored South Choctaw Academy’s touchdown on a 1-yard run with 3:49 to go in the first half. Marengo Academy blocked the extr apoint.
Huckabee ran for 85 yards on just three carries. Christian Cook and Hayden Hall made nine solo tackles each for the Longhorns, with Cook adding two assists. Kyle Adams notched eight tackles with an assist.
Marengo Academy (1-0) will host Eastwood Academy next Friday night.
