Pickens Academy QB named Player of the Week


Pickens Academy's Josh Lewis rushed for 297 yards and scored three touchdowns and also passed for two touchdowns in the Pirates' win against Southern Academy.


Junior quarterback Josh Lewis accounted for five touchdowns Friday night in leading the Pickens Academy Pirates to a 39-14 victory over Southern Academy.

Lewis rushed for 297 yards on 14 carries and scored on runs of 87, 19 and 83 yards and threw two touchdown passes. For his efforts, Lewis earned High School Football Player of the Week honors from The Tuscaloosa News.

Several other players had standout performances to garner honorable mention:

n A.J. Travis rushed for 185 yards and four touchdowns in leading Northside to a 52-22 victory over Holt. Travis scored on runs of 16, 12, 11 and 25 yards.

n Devonte Simon passed for two touchdowns, ran for one and scored on an 85-yard punt return in Pickens County’s 75-7 win over South Lamar.

n Jeremy McMullen, who scored four touchdowns, ran for 209 yards and had 75 receiving yards in Aliceville’s 39-0 win over Hale County. Aliceville’s Jocarius Spruill threw for 330 yards and three touchdowns.

n Marquis Shelton of Linden gained 125 yards on three carries and scored on runs of 17, 53 and 55 yards in a 58-0 win over J.U. Blacksher.

n Bibb County’s Adam Gaddis rushed for 147 yards on five carries in a 48-7 win over Corner. Gaddis scored three touchdowns on runs of 27, 30 and 55 yards.

n Roderick Davis gained 217 yards on 26 carries and scored on a 30-yard run in Demopolis’ 41-0 victory over Citronelle.

n Northridge junior Bo Scarbrough rushed for 164 yards on 26 carries and scored the final touchdown on a 30-yard run in the Jaguars’ 23-15 win over Hillcrest. After the game, Scarbrough announced a verbal commitment to the University of Alabama.

n Tuscaloosa Academy’s Jaevon Walton scored three touchdowns in a 48-14 win over Macon East Academy.

n Jeremiah Cousette caught two touchdown passes and threw for one as North River Christian Academy got its first win by beating Flint Hill 66-20.
