TUSCALOOSA | Here is how some former Tuscaloosa-area high school athletes now competing at the collegiate level fared last week:
Football
---- Alabama sophomore defensive back Vinnie Sunseri (Northridge High School) recorded four tackles and added a 7-yard fumble return in the Crimson Tide’s 35-0 win over Western Kentucky.
---- Alabama senior tight end Michael Williams (Pickens County High School) started at tight end in the Crimson Tide’s 35-0 win over Western Kentucky but did not catch a pass.
---- Alabama State junior linebacker Maurice Tate (Linden High School) recorded six tackles in the Hornets’ 29-7 win over Mississippi Valley State.
---- Birmingham-Southern sophomore offensive lineman Michael Ferguson (Northside High School) started at guard in the Panthers’ 45-38 win at Huntingdon.
---- Birmingham-Southern sophomore defensive end Hunter Mims (Northside High School) saw action on special teams in the Panthers’ 45-38 win at Huntingdon.
---- Chattanooga sophomore defensive lineman Toyvain Brand (Hillcrest High School) recorded three tackles as the starting defensive tackle in the Mocs’ 27-24 loss to Jacksonville State.
---- Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College cornerback Jamarcus Howard (Northridge High School) has recorded seven tackles this season.
---- Delta State offensive lineman Andre Lucious (Tuscaloosa County High School) started at left guard in the Statesmen’s 29-7 win over Elizabeth City (N.C.) State.
---- East Central Community College sophomore receiver Brock Hall (Paul W. Bryant High School) had one reception for 10 yards in the Warriors’ 51-7 loss to East Mississippi Community College. He also had three rushing attempts for 21 yards in his 2012 debut with the Warriors.
---- ECCC defensive tackle Martaze Jackson (Demopolis High School) recorded four tackles in the Warriors’ loss to East Mississippi Community College.
---- ECCC offensive lineman Remund Jackson (Tuscaloosa County High School) played on the second team offensive line in the Warriors’ loss to East Mississippi Community College.
---- ECCC offensive lineman Paul Kirkman (Tuscaloosa County High School) played on the second team offensive line in the Warriors’ loss to East Mississippi Community College.
---- ECCC defensive lineman Vodrick Lucious (Tuscaloosa County High School) played on the second team defensive line and recorded one tackle in the loss to East Mississippi Community College.
---- ECCC sophomore wide receiver Keivondre Watford (Central High School) saw action in the loss to East Mississippi Community College but did not record a pass reception.
---- Faulkner College freshman running back De’Marko Hall (Pickens County High School) hauled in two passes for 18 yards and returned two kickoffs for 55 yards in the Eagles’ 34-20 loss to Georgetown (Ky.) College.
---- Huntingdon College sophomore defensive lineman Walker Lewis (Patrician Academy) recorded one tackle (minus-2 yards) as a backup defensive tackle in the Hawks’ 45-38 loss to Birmingham-Southern.
---- Jackson State senior defensive lineman Jamal Carter (Livingston High School) recorded four tackles, including three solo stops, as a backup defensive tackle in the Tigers’ 38-12 loss to Tennessee State in Nashville.
---- Jacksonville State sophomore offensive lineman Max Holcombe (Hillcrest High School) starting center in the Gamecocks’ last-second 27-24 win over Chattanooga last Saturday. The Gamecocks rushed for 221 yards and averaged 6 yards per carry.
---- Jacksonville State running back DaMarcus James (Demopolis High School) scored his first career touchdown in the Gamecocks’ 27-24 last-second win over Chattanooga. James had a 43-yard touchdown run with 4:48 left in the first half to push the Gamecocks’ lead to 17-0. He caught a 30-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter as JSU took a 24-10 lead. James finished the game with 150 total yards and two touchdowns. He ran the ball 16 times for 120 yards, his first career 100-yard game at JSU.
---- Miles College defensive lineman James Gaines III (Greene County High School) recorded seven tackles, including one sack (minus-12 yards) in the Bears’ 28-15 win at Shaw in Durham, N.C.
---- Miles College sophomore offensive linemen Aderius Hood (Greene County High School) was the starting left tackle in the Bears 28-15 win at Shaw.
---- Miles College senior offensive linemen Lester Jackson Jr. (Central High School) made his second consecutive start at right guard as the Bears posted a 28-15 win at Shaw in Durham, N.C.
---- Miles College senior fullback K.C. Logan (Central High School) earned his second start of the season at Shaw but did not have rushing attempt or a pass reception.
---- North Alabama quarterback Luke Wingo (Hillcrest High) had one rushing attempt and two pass attempts as the backup quarterback in the Lions’ 31-10 loss to Harding in their home opener last weekend in Florence.
---- South Alabama junior wide receiver Jared Palmer (Northridge High School) saw action on special teams in the Jaguars’ 9-3 win over Nicholls State.
---- South Alabama junior wide receiver Corey Waldon (Central High School) had a 7-yard reception in the Jaguars’ 9-3 win over Nicholls State. Waldon was one of nine different receivers to catch a pass in the win over the Colonels.
---- Stillman sophomore receiver Raymond Coats (Paul W. Bryant High School) recorded his first pass reception of the season in the Tigers’ 31-0 loss to Ouachita Baptist in their home opener.
---- Stillman junior offensive lineman Charles Hope (Bibb County High School) saw action as the backup center in the Tigers’ loss to Ouachita Baptist in their home opener.
---- Stillman junior cornerback Antonio Johnson (Hale County High School) record ed four tackles and forced one fumble against Ouachita Baptist in the Tigers’ home opener.
---- Stillman freshman running back Cornelius Moye (Wilcox Central High School) made his collegiate debut at running back against Ouachita Baptist.
---- Stillman senior tight end Johnny Pate (Hillcrest High School) saw action as the backup tight end in the loss to Ouachita Baptist.
---- Tennessee-Martin senior defensive tackle Darrin Nalls (Fayette County High School) had one tackle in the 38-7 loss at Northern Illinois last weekend.
---- Vanderbilt senior running back Zac Stacy (Bibb County High School) led the Commodores with 91 all-purpose yards in the 23-13 loss at Northwestern over the weekend. Stacy had 13 rushing attempts for 36 yards and caught one pass for 55 yards in the loss.
---- West Alabama junior starting middle linebacker Ben Brooks (Sumter County High School) was the Tigers’ second-leading tackler with seven stops in the loss at Samford on Saturday. He also recorded one quarterback pressure against the Bulldogs.
---- Western Kentucky junior linebacker Chuck Franks (Fayette County High School) recorded one tackle in the Hilltoppers’ 35-0 loss at No. 1 Alabama last weekend in Tuscaloosa.
BASEBALL
---- East Central Community College sophomore infielder Tim Anderson (Hillcrest High School) made the 2012 Jayhawk League top 20 prospects list by Perfect Game. Anderson hit .352 with eight home runs and 39 RBIs for the Dodge City (Kan.) A’s in the summer wood-bat league. He has also had two triples and 14 doubles and was successful on 32 of 32 stolen base attempts. He batted .362 for the ECCC Warriors in 2012 with four home runs, nine doubles, 30 stolen bases and 39 RBIs.
VOLLEYBALL
---- Stillman freshman setter and outside hitter Hannah Burr (American Christian Academy) has recorded 27 digs and 18 kills in seven matches for the Tigers this season.
---- Stillman sophomore defensive setter Bailey Braughton (Tuscaloosa County High School) leads the Tigers with 29 digs this season. She helped the Tigers to a perfect weekend in Fairfield with 3-0 sweeps over LeMoyne-Owen, Kentucky State and Lane as Stillman improved to 5-2.
