VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: TA rallies past Lady Cougars

TUSCALOOSA | After losing the first two games Tuesday, the Tuscaloosa Academy volleyball team won three straight to earn a victory over Southern Academy.
Southern Academy won the first games by scores of 25-23 and 25-22. The Lady Knights won by scores of 25-21, 25-17 and 15-10.
Kaci Cochran had 25 digs, 11 kills and two service aces for Tuscaloosa Academy (6-3). Brittany Ledbetter had 23 assists, 18 digs and three aces. Rachael Fincher had eight aces, six kills and five blocks.
"It was one of the most competitive matches that we’ve played," said Tuscaloosa Academy coach Anita Walker. "They beat us the last match when we were there, so it was a huge match to win."
The Lady Knights play at home Thursday, facing Morgan Academy at 4 p.m.
Northside defeats Central, 3-2
SAMANTHA | The Northside volleyball team won three of five games Tuesday to defeat visiting Central.
Central won the first game 25-22, but the Lady Rams won the second 25-23. After Central posted a 25-20 win, Northside won the fourth game 25-19 and took the fifth by a 15-13 score.
Diana Fuller had 16 kills, four digs, four service aces and two blocks for Northside (7-0). Sam Aldridge had 15 kills, six digs, four blocks and three aces. Ashton Welborn had seven kills, seven blocks and three digs. Karley Watts had 17 digs. Kayla Rice had 15 digs. Cassidy Porter had five kills and four digs.
Central’s D’Leisha Dent had 14 kills, and Angelica Weatherspoon had 14 assists. Brandie Fields had 20 digs. Chasidy Church had nine kills and four blocks. Crystalyn Bouyer had 13 assists, and Brekell May had 10 digs.
Central (7-8) plays at Brookwood on Thursday in a Class 5A, Area 7 match. Northside plays at home against Berry on Sept. 20.
Lady Rams down Greensboro
AKRON | The Akron volleyball team ran its record to 8-4 by downing Greensboro in a four-game match.
Akron won the first two games by scores of 25-13 and 25-20. Greensboro won 25-12 before the Lady Rams closed out the match with a 25-9 victory.
Akron’s LovPrincess Harris had 13 kills and 10 service aces. Teammate Dequandra Lyles also had 13 kills. Zabrina Small finished seven kills and seven aces. Jasmine White had 26 assists. Laurietta Small had 20 digs, and Faith Bryant had 20.
Akron plays at home Thursday, taking on Linden in a Class 1A, Area 4 match.
