AREA ROUNDUP: Fayette County cruises past Gordo


 

FAYETTE | Fayette County’s Trae Madison had 126 total yards with one receiving touchdown and two rushing scores to lead the Tigers to a 31-8 win over Gordo in a Class 3A, Region 3 game Friday night.

Madison’s brother, Tevin, began the game with a 21-yard touchdown catch from Marcellus Redmond.

Redmond finished 6 of 10 with 117 yards and two touchdowns. On defense, Redmond returned an interception for a 45-yard score. Redmond’s brother, Will, had two interceptions.

Kyle Nalls led the Tigers with 94 yards on 17 carries. Darnell Williams finished with nine total tackles and two sacks.

Gordo’s Devin Prude hauled in a 30-yard touchdown from Lane Moss.

Fayette County (2-1, 2-0) travels to Sipsey Valley next Friday. Gordo (2-0, 1-1) hosts Greene County.

 

McAdory 41, Central 7

McCALLA | David Knight rushed for 80 yards with two touchdowns as McAdory remained undefeated with a 41-7 Class 5A, Region 5 win over Central.

Knight’s touchdowns came in the first half as McAdory built a 21-0 lead. Justin Mabry added 85 yards with a 44-yard TD run. Moore was also 3 for 9 passing for 45 pards and a TD pass.

The Yellow Jackets also picked up a 73-yard punt return for a score from RoyDarius Ellison. Vincent Davis was 6 of 22 passing for Central (2-1, 1-1) for 84 yards and had a 10-yard TD pass to Kalias Robertson.

 

Southern Academy 42, Sumter Academy 21

SUMTER | Jacob Rose led Southern Academy with 125 yards and touchdowns of 1 and 27 yards in a win over Sumter Academy in AISA action.

Clayton Hall started the scoring with a 61-yard touchdown and finished with 107 yards. Cole Marsh had a receiving touchdown from Hall.

Dylan Henry scored on a 30-yard interception return. Justin Broussard finished 6-for-6 on extra points.

Sumter Academy’s Austin Dirksen ran for 105 yards with a 16-yard touchdown.

Southern Academy (2-2) plays at Marengo Academy next Friday. Sumter Academy (2-2) plays at Patrician Academy.

 

Brilliant 37, South Lamar 14

MILLPORT | Brilliant’s Chance Key scored on runs of 43 and 53 yards, along with touchdown passes of 4 and 32 yards in Brilliant’s Class 1A, Region 5 win over South Lamar.

South Lamar’s Blake Mitchell ran for an 8-yard score and had a 44-yard touchdown pass to Dylan Wilson.

Jason Lawson had 10 tackles with one sack. Justin Cheeks had nine tackles with one fumble recovery.

South Lamar (0-3, 0-1) hosts Lynn next Friday.

 

Bibb County 59, Oak Grove 13

CENTREVILLE | Bibb County ran for 560 yards on 37 carries led by Adam Gaddis with 254 yards and four touchdowns in a Class 4A, Region 4 game.

Gaddis ran for scores of 76, 17, 61 and 66 yards. T.J. Lockett had 196 yards with three touchdowns. Justin Dedrick had 76 yards rushing with a 28-yard score.

Steven Taylor returned a fumble for a 69-yard touchdown.

Oak Grove scored on a Daniel Murkerson 25-yard interception return and a 2-yard run by Tyler Goodson.

Bibb County (2-1, 2-0) plays at Jemison next Friday.

 

Maplesville 61, Sunshine 0

MAPLESVILLE | Maplesville scored 56 first-half points in a Class 1A, Region 3 win.

Brintain Hill had three rushing touchdowns. Colby Chambers threw 6 of 9 for 138 yards with one touchdown to Anthony Johnson.

Demetrius Parker ran for 72 yards on three carries with a 45-yard touchdown run.

Maplesville (3-0, 2-0) plays at Akron next Friday. Sunshine (0-3, 0-2) hosts Billingsley.

 

Linden 34, Saint Luke’s 14

LINDEN | Marquis Shelton led the Linden rushing attack with 140 yards and two touchdowns in a Class 1A, Region 1 win.

Jamal Lewis added to the total with 118 yards and a 7-yard score. Jalen Lewis caught a 29-yard touchdown pass from Anthony Robinson.

Saint Luke’s Andrew Favors had 141 passing yards with one passing touchdown and another rushing.

Linden (3-0, 2-0) plays at McIntosh next Friday.

 

Danville 19, Winfield 18

DANVILLE | Danville scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to rally from a 12-point deficit to defeat Winfield.

Winfield jumped out to an early lead with touchdown runs by Eddie McCollum, Jesse Scarborough and Spencer Beard but Danville’s Justin Hannah scored the two touchdowns late to help the Hawks squeak by.

Winfield was led by McCollum, who rushed 19 times for 102 yards and a score, while Danville was led by Hannah’s 21 carries for 103 yards with two scores. He also led the defensive effort with 14 tackles.

Winfield (1-2) hosts Gordo next Friday.

 

Aliceville 42, Sulligent 14

ALICEVILLE | Aliceville put on a defensive show against Sulligent, holding the Blue Devils to just 67 yards of offense while racking up 482 total yards.

Aliceville was led by Jeremy McMullen, who carried the ball 24 times for 249 yards and scored four touchdowns. Christopher Crowell and Joe Robinson gained 110 and 100 yards receiving.

Jocarious Spruill completed 16-of-24 passes for 235 yards and two touchdowns.

Aliceville (2-1) travels to Cold Springs next Friday, while Sulligent (1-2) travels to Lamar County.

 

Lamar County 41, R.C. Hatch 32

VERNON | Dallas Cockerham led Lamar County to a Class 2A, Region 4 win over R.C. Hatch.

Cockerham rushed for 193 yards on 19 carries. He threw for 76 yards, including a 24-yard touchdown pass to Devin Dias. Ryan Barham led the Bulldogs with eight tackles.

Lamar County hosts Sulligent next Friday.

 

Marion County 38, Parrish 12

PARRISH | The top-ranked and unbeaten Red Raiders rushed for 307 yards as they rolled over Parrish in a Class 1A, Region 5 game.

Sean Wallace passed for two touchdowns and rushed for another to lead the Red Raiders. He throw both of his scoring passes to Ready Swanigan and scored on a 32-yard run.

Justin Sanderson, who rushed for 125 yards, scored on a 2-yard run.

Marion County (3-0, 2-0) hosts Hubbertville next Friday night.

 

Berry 42, Hubbertville 33

BERRY | Tank Hollingsworth rushed for 336 yards and four touchdowns as the Wildcats earned their first victory of the season.

Hollingsworth scored on runs of 17, 25, 2 and 14 yards. He also added a 2-point conversion.

Clancy Brown and Maken Potter each added one touchdown for the Wildcats. Brown finished with 79 yards on 15 carries.

Zac Pasley led the Wildcats on defense with 11 tackles.

Aaron Dillard scored two touchdowns for Hubbertville, while Anthony Dillard added a 10-yard touchdown run. Landon Miller scored on an 11-yard run and David Aldridge returned a fumble 95 yards for another touchdown.

Berry (1-2) hosts Parrish next Friday, while Hubbertville (2-1) travels to Marion County.

 

Satsuma 27, Sumter Central 12

YORK | Quinton Sledge rushed for 73 yards and two touchdowns as the Gators snapped a 12-game losing streak with their victory over the Jaguars.

Sledge scored both of his touchdowns in the first quarter, on runs of 39 and 9 yards. In the fourth quarter, Jacob Head and Jackson Parker each had a touchdown run for the Gators.

LeeOtis Washington caught two touchdown passes from Jadarius Wilson in the fourth quarter for Sumter Central. Washington finished with 171 all-purpose yards.

Jemarkus Thompson, Diontye Willingham and Simuel Toole each had nine tackles for the Jaguars.

Sumter Central (0-3) travels to Jackson next Friday.

 

John Essex 34, Marengo 14

DEMOPOLIS | Demetrius Bennett rushed for 168 yards and two touchdowns on just 13 carries as the Hornets stung Marengo.

Bennett scored on runs of 65 and 34 yards.

Cedric Cook followed with two touchdowns on runs of 13 and 9 yards, while Markeise Tucker added a 2-yard scoring run.

Cook also led the Hornets on defense with 12 tackles, three assists and two interceptions.

John Essex (2-1) travels to St. Luke’s next Friday.

 

Pickens Academy 41, South Choctaw 12

CARROLLTON | Garrett Estes rushed for five touchdowns and 101 yards on 27 carries and Josh Lewis had eight carries for 106 yards and one touchdown for the Pirates.

Pickens Academy led 20-6 at halftime, with Estes scoring on an 11-yard run and back-to-back 3-yard runs. He scored again in the third quarter on an 8-yard run and had a 1-yard run in the fourth.

Lewis’ touchdown came in the fourth quarter on a 9-yard run. Lewis also kicked five extra points.

Brannan Doggett scored on a 65-yard run for South Choctaw, while Joel Bakane had a 50-yard touchdown run.

Joel Pratt led Pickens Academy with 10 tackles.

Pickens Academy (4-0) hosts Eastwood Academy next Friday for homecoming.
