Sports writer Andrew Carroll makes his picks from Friday night’s West Alabama football games.

AHSAA

Northridge (3-2, 2-1) at Tuscaloosa County (4-1, 3-0)

Breakdown: Tylan Perry ran for two touchdowns, and the TCHS Wildcats won their fourth straight game by beating Central 42-20. Perry also caught a touchdown pass. Allen Cooks caught a touchdown pass and scored on a punt return. James Cox caught two touchdown passes from Tanner Cline in the fourth quarter, but Northridge lost to Pelham 34-27.

Carroll’s prediction: Tuscaloosa County 24, Northridge 17

Jackson-Olin (0-5, 0-3) at Hillcrest (3-2, 2-1)

Breakdown: Riley Nix threw for 149 yards in the first half and completed a touchdown pass to Darnell Webb, and Charles Bester ran for two touchdowns in Hillcrest’s 39-6 win over Paul W. Bryant. Jackson-Olin lost to Parker 34-14.

Carroll’s prediction: Hillcrest 38, Jackson-Olin 6

Paul W. Bryant (0-5, 0-3) at Parker (2-3, 0-3)

Breakdown: Quarterback Joe Pradat and running back Tyler Slayton have leg injuries and won’t play tonight for Paul W. Bryant. Both were hurt in the loss to Hillcrest. Paul W. Bryant’s points came on two field goals by Adam Shepard.

Carroll’s prediction: Parker 26, Paul W. Bryant 14

Pleasant Grove (2-3, 1-2) at Brookwood (3-2, 1-2)

Breakdown: Quarterback Seth Franks threw for 269 yards and connected with Caleb Franks and Richard Clardy on a couple of touchdown passes in a 52-47 win at Oak Grove. Seth Franks also ran for a touchdown. Jay Buffer gained 81 yards and ran for two touchdowns. Anthony McCostlin had a touchdown run, and Justin Carter scored on an 80-yard kickoff return. Pleasant Grove lost to Hueytown 34-22. This game was originally scheduled for Thursday.

Carroll’s prediction: Brookwood 26, Pleasant Grove 14

Demopolis (5-0, 3-0) at Greenville (2-3, 2-1)

Breakdown: Tucker Jones, who ran for a score, threw touchdown passes to Rodney Harper, Cortez Lewis and Tyrelle Barnett in Demopolis’ 27-26 win over Thomasville. Jones passed for 226 yards and ran for 100. Greenville lost to Charles Henderson 14-13.

Carroll’s prediction: Demopolis 33, Greenville 7

Citronelle (2-3, 1-2) at Sumter Central (1-4, 0-3)

Breakdown: Sumter Central got its first win by beating Greene County 50-0. JeMarkus Thompson rushed for 129 yards and two touchdowns. Jadarius Wilson ran for a score and threw touchdown passes to LeOtis Washington and Clinton Moore. Sumter Central’s defenses recorded 10 sacks. Citronelle lost to Southern Choctaw 28-18.

Carroll’s prediction: Sumter Central 24, Citronelle 20

Dora (4-1, 3-0) at Bibb County (2-2, 2-1)

Breakdown: Bibb County had a bye after losing to Jemison 18-7 on Sept. 21. Dora lost to Muscle Shoals 38-6.

Carroll’s prediction: Bibb County 28, Dora 21

Jemison (4-1, 3-0) at West Blocton (1-4, 0-3)

Breakdown: Jaylen Gaines rushed for 148 yards with a touchdown, and Trace Wilder gained 95 yards and scored twice in West Blocton’s 32-18 win over Montevallo. Wilder threw a touchdown pass to Evan Vick. Jemison beat Holtville 56-6.

Carroll’s prediction: Jemison 35, West Blocton 13

Gordo (3-2, 2-1) at American Christian Academy (3-2, 3-0)

Breakdown: Daylon Rice ran for 67 yards and a touchdown in Gordo’s 21-14 loss to Hamilton. Tyvon Martin gained 63 yards with a touchdown run. Quarterback Lane Moss threw for 134 yards. ACA’s Parker Dare, a defensive back and wide receiver, suffered three broken ribs and a lacerated kidney in a 38-16 loss to Fultondale. Austin Mohlenbrok threw touchdown passes to Aaron Box and to John Roberts. Connor Thigpen kicked a 40-yard field goal.

Carroll’s prediction: ACA 27, Gordo 24

Fayette County (4-1, 3-0) at Greene County (0-5, 0-3)

Breakdown: Tevin Madison caught four passes for 153 yards and three touchdowns and scored on an 83-yard kickoff return in Fayette County’s 41-14 win over Sulligent. Marcellus Redmond passed for 210 yards. Greene County is averaging 5.2 points per game and is allowing an average of 54.4.

Carroll’s prediction: Fayette County 42, Greene County 6

Holt (1-4, 1-2) at Greensboro (2-3, 0-3)

Breakdown: DJ Matthews had touchdown runs of 74 and 75 yards in Holt’s 34-28 loss to Billingsley. Jarvis Scott scored on a 55-yard run. John Cole Castleberry threw a touchdown pass to Marcell Kirkland. Quante Brown threw a touchdown pass to Tyrez McCain, and JeVontey Smith scored on a 95-yard interception return in Greensboro’s 12-0 victory over Hale County. Greensboro gained 204 yards in total offense but lost 115 yards to penalties.

Carroll’s prediction: Greensboro 20, Holt 16

Northside (3-2, 2-1) at Sipsey Valley (2-3, 1-2)

Breakdown: Northside’s rally fell short in a 28-21 loss to Oakman. In the second half, Justin Beck scored on a 1-yard run, and A.J. Travis caught a touchdown pass from Tanner Colburn. Zarrian Grant scored on a 64-yard run in the first quarter. Sipsey Valley quarterback Garret Lewis threw for 340 yards and four touchdowns in a 54-47 win over Curry. Lewis rushed for 203 yards and a touchdown. Braylan Smith caught two touchdown passes, one going for 96 yards.

Carroll’s prediction: Northside 32, Sipsey Valley 28

Hanceville (2-3, 1-2) at Winfield (2-3, 1-2)

Breakdown: Xavier McCollum rushed for 176 yards on 34 carries in Winfield’s 26-14 loss to Haleyville. McCollum ran for a score and caught a touchdown pass. Hanceville beat West Point 14-10.

Carroll’s prediction: Winfield 23, Hanceville 12

Aliceville (3-2, 2-0) at Lamar County (3-2, 2-1)

Breakdown: Jeremy McMullen and Gerald Sterling each had a touchdown run in Aliceville’s 35-14 loss to Pickens County. McMullen gained 120 yards on 15 carries. Marqueze Marshall had 15 tackles and a sack for Aliceville. Timothy Harton ran for two touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass in Lamar County’s 50-42 overtime loss to Berry. Dallas Cockerham ran for two scores and threw a touchdown pass.

Carroll’s prediction: Aliceville 30, Lamar County 21

Francis Marion (0-5, 0-3) at Cold Springs (1-4, 0-3)

Breakdown: Quarterback Johnta Hoskins scored on a 20-yard run in Francis Marion’s 26-6 loss to Dallas County. Cold Springs lost to Lynn 21-0.

Carroll’s prediction: Francis Marion 18, Cold Springs 12

R.C. Hatch (2-3, 1-2) at Hale County (2-3, 2-1)

Breakdown: Blake Williams leads Hale County with 368 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Grant Stevens has 203 rushing yards and 226 passing yards. Stevens has rushed for two touchdowns and has thrown for two scores. R.C. Hatch beat Sunshine 40-0.

Carroll’s prediction: R.C. 23, Hale County 18

Sulligent (1-4, 1-2) at Oakman (4-1, 3-0)

Breakdown: Sulligent’s Juwan Metcalfe rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown in the loss to Fayette County.

Carroll’s prediction: Oakman 31, Sulligent 18

Sunshine (0-5, 0-3) at Akron (4-1, 2-1)

Breakdown: Deantay White, who gained 100 yards on seven carries, had a 54-yard touchdown run and scored on a 90-yard kickoff return in Akron’s 53-12 victory over Marengo. Quin Jeffery ran for two scores and caught a touchdown pass. Johnny Tubbs had a touchdown run and caught a touchdown pass. Nick Nickson and Jaylon Ruffin had seven tackles each. Sunshine is averaging 6.0 points per game and allowing 41.0.

Carroll’s prediction: Akron 48, Sunshine 6

Berry (3-2, 2-1) at Brilliant (2-3, 1-2)

Breakdown: Clancy Brown recorded 28 tackles and scored the winning touchdown on a 10-yard run in overtime in Berry’s win over Lamar County. Brown rushed for 94 yards. Terrance “Tank” Hollingsworth, who scored four times, had 133 rushing yards, 103 receiving yards and 140 return yards. Hollingsworth has rushed for 827 yards in four games. Maken Potter threw for 216 yards and two touchdowns. Brilliant beat Vina 45-14.

Carroll’s prediction: Berry 34, Brilliant 19

Autaugaville (1-4, 0-3) at Holy Spirit (1-4, 0-3)

Breakdown: Holy Spirit rushed for 262 yards and snapped a 12-game losing streak with a 30-0 victory over Southeastern. Michael Al-Dijaili and Garrett Anderson each ran for a score and threw a touchdown pass. Connor Bassett caught a touchdown pass. Autaugaville beat John Essex 28-0.

Carroll’s prediction: Autaugaville 22, Holy Spirit 14

Hubbertville (3-2, 1-2) at South Lamar (0-5, 0-3)

Breakdown: Hubbertville’s Aaron Dillard rushed for 264 yards on 27 carries in a 27-26 win over Shoals Christian. Dillard, who leads the Lions with 937 yards and nine touchdowns, scored on a 51-yard run and caught a 3-yard touchdown pass from Vess Benton. Dillard also kicked three extra points. South Lamar lost to Central Coosa 39-10. Holden Fields kicked a 27-yard field goa, and Blake Mitchell scored on a 1-yard run. Mitchell rushed for 133 yards on 20 carries. He leads the Stallions with 280 yards rushing.

Carroll’s prediction: Hubbertville 33, South Lamar 12

A.L. Johnson (3-2, 1-2) at Linden (5-0, 3-0)

Breakdown: Linden remained unbeaten with a 47-8 win over Wilcox Central last Thursday. The game ended in the third quarter when a fight broke out and referees decided to eject a combined 32 players. Anthony Robinson ran for two touchdowns and scored on an interception return. Jalen Lewis ran for two touchdowns. Prentiss McQuiston had a touchdown run. A.L. Johnson beat Ellwood Christian 14-13.

Carroll’s prediction: Linden 41, A.L. Johnson 13

Parrish (2-3, 0-3) at Pickens County (5-0, 3-0)

Breakdown: Devonte Simon threw for 158 yards and two touchdowns in Pickens County’s win over Aliceville. Jermarcus Brown rushed for 188 yards and a touchdown. Brown leads the Tornadoes with 722 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. Raheem Curry and Gunner Lemons caught touchdown passes, and Corey Guyton and William Stewart each had a touchdown run. Parrish beat Cordova 6-0.

Carroll’s prediction: Pickens County 49, Parrish 14

J.U. Blacksher (0-5, 0-3)  at John Essex (2-3, 1-2)

Breakdown: John Essex is averaging 18.4 points per game and is allowing 27.0. J.U. Blacksher lost to Florala 56-15.

Carroll’s prediction: John Essex 22, J.U. Blacksher 8

AISA

Patrician Academy (4-2, 2-1) at Southern Academy (2-4, 1-2)

Breakdown: Jacob Rose rushed for 171 yards and scored two touchdowns in Southern Academy’s 27-21 loss to Lowndes Academy. Cole Marsh caught a touchdown pass from Clayton Hall. Rose leads the Cougars with 598 yards and five rushing touchdowns. Marsh has 17 catches for 343 yards and five touchdowns. Patrician Academy beat South Choctaw Academy 44-0

Carroll’s prediction: Patrician Academy 33, Southern Academy 21

Marengo Academy (4-2, 3-0) at Pickens Academy (6-0, 4-0)

Breakdown: Josh Lewis ran for 141 yards and three touchdowns and threw a touchdown pass to Sam Beachler in Pickens Academy’s 59-33 win over Jackson Academy. Lewis has 1,076 yards and 14 touchdowns. Joel Pratt had 176 yards rushing on 11 carries. He ran for two touchdowns and scored on a 70-yard interception return. Garrett Estes rushed for 88 yards and had a 2-yard touchdown run. Hayden Huckabee ran for 140 yards and scored two touchdowns in Marengo Academy’s 42-26 win over Meadowview Christian. The Longhorns’ final touchdown came on a 15-yard run by Brant Lewis after Shade Pritchett blocked a punt. Marengo Academy overcame a 26-14 halftime deficit. Huckabee leads the Longhorns with 465 yards rushing, Josh Hollifield has 471 and Lewis 432.

Carroll’s prediction: Pickens Academy 35, Marengo Academy 27

Eastwood Christian (1-6, 0-5) at Sumter Academy (2-4, 2-1)

Breakdown: Sumter Academy is averaging 32.5 points and 263.5 yards rushing per game. Christopher Yonker leads the Eagles with 468 yards. Nathan Williamson has 399, Blake Dial 319 and Austin Dirksen 295. Dial has five rushing touchdowns. Eastwood Christian lost to Sparta Academy 40-6.

Carroll’s prediction: Sumter Academy 44, Eastwood Christian 12

CFA

Tabernacle Christian (6-0, 3-0) at North River Christian (2-4, 1-3)

Breakdown: North River Christian hasn’t played since losing 65-6 to New Life Christian on Sept. 14. The Sept. 21 game against Hope Christian was forfeited, and the Chargers were off last week. Tabernacle Christian beat Wiregrass 78-0.

Carroll’s prediction: Tabernacle Christian 56, North River Christian 12

 

Evangel Christian (4-2) at Tuscaloosa Christian (4-2)

Breakdown: Jordan Potter accounted for 255 yards in total offense and three touchdowns in Tuscaloosa Christian’s 47-16 win over New Life Christian. Freedom Woods rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns. Evangel Christian beat Ballard Christian 47-12.

Carroll’s prediction: Tuscaloosa Christian 35, Evangel Christian 22
