Northridge volleyball ends Brookwood's perfect season.


TUSCALOOSA | The Northridge High School volleyball team ended Brookwood’s hopes of a perfect season while continuing perfection of its own, moving to 5-0 in region play with a 3-1 win at home versus the Lady Panthers. Brookwood took the first set 25-21 before Northridge found a groove to win the next three sets 25-21, 25-18 and 25-20.

Anna Lee Petitt paced the Lady Jaguars with 19 kills and two aces. Taylor Weatherby also had two aces in addition to three kills and two blocks. Shirlyncia Moore tallied five kills and four blocks, joined by Kiana Johnson with four blocks, who also recorded two kills, an ace and 34 assists.

Kalie Cagle recorded 21 assists and two digs for Brookwood. Bethany Williams led the Lady Panthers in blocks with 12 to go along with two digs, one assist and one block. Layne Russell added five kills, two aces and 10 blocks.

Northridge (20-14, 5-0) will travel to Bessemer City on Monday, while Brookwood does not see action again until its match with Tuscaloosa County on Oct. 11.

 

Akron 3,

Hale County 0

AKRON | The Akron Lady Rams took the first of two straight matches against Hale County with a 3-0 sweep. Akron won a tightly-contested first set 25-23 before widening the gap with a 25-9 second set and a 25-18 third set.

Akron was led in kills by LovPrincess Harris with 16 in addition to six aces and one block. Jasmine White led the team in assists with 21 and Faith Bryant led Akron with 17 digs.

Akron will travel to Moundville for its next match against Hale County on Tuesday.

 

Fayette County 3,

Lamar County 0

VERNON | Fayette County took to the road to beat the Lamar County Lady Bulldogs in straight sets. Fayette County won the first set 25-16 then was forced to fight much harder for the next two, winning 25-20 and 25-21.

The Lady Tigers were led by Carlee Burgett with 12 digs. Burgett also tallied five kills, four blocks and five aces. Autumn Bonner recorded a team-high seven kills plus eight digs and one block. Both Kristin McCafferty and Caitlin Aldridge knotched six kills for Fayette County. McCafferty also had 10 digs, two blocks and four assists while Aldridge contributed five digs and an assist.

Fayette County (13-10) will go on the road again to face American Christian Academy on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

 

Greensboro 3,

Demopolis 0

GREENSBORO | Greensboro defeated visiting Demopolis in three sets, winning 25-16, 25-16, 25-23.

For the Lady Raiders, Jashundra Hoskins had 11 aces and four kills. Elexus Evans had two aces and 11 kills. Makaila Howard had four assists. Shawnderyl Watford had five aces and two kills, and Nastassia Conner had two aces and three kills.

The two teams meet again on Monday at 4 p.m. when Greensboro (4-8, 0-2) travels to Demopolis for a tri-match with American Christian Academy.

 

Central 3,

Tuscaloosa County 1

TUSCALOOSA | Central won in four sets, 27-24, 25-12, 22-25 and 15-10.

Angelica Weatherspoon had seven kills and 16 assists in the win. Teammates Alexis Reed had 10 kills and five blocks, Crystalyn Bouyer had seven kills and eight digs, D’Leishia Dent had nine kills, Brekell May had 17 digs, and Brandie Fields had 15 digs.

Central (17-13) and Tuscaloosa County (9-13) face one another again on Monday at 5 p.m. at Tuscaloosa County.

 

Northside 3, Holt 0

TUSCALOOSA | The Lady Jaguars won 25-0, 25-7 and 25-19 to clinch Area 7 in Class 3A.

Northside was led by Ashton Welborn’s three serving aces, six kills and one dig. Karley Watts had nine digs and Jamie Elledge added another five digs while Cassidy Porter had four kills and one dig,

Northside (13-0, 6-0 Class 3A, Area 7) plays Bryant in a tri-match Monday.
