Breakdown: Riley Nix threw two touchdown passes and ran for two scores in Hillcrest’s 40-7 victory over Jackson-Olin. Charles Bester gained 107 yards rushing and scoed a touchdown. Hoover beat Bessemer City 38-7.
Carroll’s prediction: Hoover 35, Hillcrest 17
Hueytown (2-4, 0-4)
at Northridge (3-3, 2-2)
Breakdown: Northridge’s Deondre Rogers had a 69-yard run, but the Jaguars couldn’t score in a 19-0 loss to Tuscaloosa County. Rogers rushed for 106 yards on 14 carries. Kyle Stuart, a sophomore, started at quarterback in place of Tanner Cline, who missed the game because of mononucleosis. Stuart completed 13 of 25 passes for 79 yards with an interception. Hueytown lost to Minor 34-33.

Tuscaloosa County (5-1, 4-0) at Minor (2-4, 2-2)
Breakdown: Tylan Perry gained 198 yards on 27 carries in Tuscaloosa County’s victory over Northridge. Cornelius Prewitt and Ted Colburn each scored a touchdown, and Emiliano Ramirez kicked two field goals.
Carroll’s prediction: Tuscaloosa County 31, Minor 7

at Brookwood (3-3, 1-3)
Breakdown: Jay Buffer had a 63-yard run to set up his 1-yard touchdown in Brookwood’s 49-14 loss to Pleasant Grove. Brookwood had 159 yards of offense. Brookwood’s second touchdown came on an 11-yard fumble return by LaDarius Smith.

Breakdown: Paul W. Bryant lost to Parker 54-0 last Thursday. Central lost to Wenonah 53-0 last Thursday.

Breakdown: Brock Montgomery caught four passes for 74 yards and a touchdown in Demopolis’ 21-3 victory over Greenville. Roderick Davis and Tucker Jones each had a touchdown run. Tyler Merriweather led the defense with five tackles, five assists, a sack and a fumble recovery. Sumter Central lost to Citronelle 30-25. Julius May rushed for 118 yards and a touchdown. Terance Henson gained 54 yards and finished with six tackles.

Breakdown: Dikembe Aaron ran for two touchdowns in Bibb County’s 27-25 loss to Dora. Adam Gaddis scored on a 57-ayrd punt return in the fourth quarter. Calera beat Carbon Hill 60-0.

Breakdown: West Blocton lost to Jemison 39-13.

Breakdown: Fayette County scored 30 points in the first quarter in a 37-14 victory over Greene County. Kyle Nalls ran for two touchdowns, and Daniel Dixon scored on a 2-yard run. After Fayette County scored a safety, Tevin Madison returned the free kick 57 yards for a touchdown. Hunter Voegele and Deavon Oden each had an interception. Holt lost to Greensboro 50-0.

Breakdown: Quante Brown ran for two scores and threw a touchdown pass to Darryl Campbell in Greensboro’s win over Holt. Kiemondre Turner and Cordell Chavers combined for more than 200 yards rushing with Chavers scoring a touchdown. Jamarquis Singleton scored on a 60-yard fumble return. ACA quarterback Austin Mohlenbrok threw a 46-yard touchdown pass to John Roberts in the Patriots’ 17-7 loss to Gordo.

Breakdown: Northside’s A.J. Travis rushed for 344 yards and scored seven touchdowns in a 50-46 victory over Sipsey Valley. Quarterback Justin Beck scored the winning touchdown on a 1-yard run. Lane Moss threw for 240 yards in Gordo’s win over ACA. Moss threw a 70-yard touchdown pass to Marcus Jones and a 90-yarder to Jarron Cousette. Devin Prude kicked a 21-yard field goal.

Breakdown: Quarterback Garret Lewis accounted for 400 yards in total offense and threw four touchdown passes in Sipsey Valley’s loss to Northside. Carson Windle scored two touchdowns for the Bears. Braylan Smith had two touchdown catches. Jeremy Mobley rushed for 70 yards and two touhdowns in Greene County’s loss to Fayette County.

Breakdown: Winfield lost to Hanceville 12-0 as Brontae Harris scored on a 50-yard run and an 85-yard interception return. Hamilton beat Vinemont 56-49.

at Aliceville (3-3, 3-1)
Breakdown: Christopher Crowell and Stephon Dunner each had a touchdown run in Aliceville’s 44-14 loss to Lamar County. Aliceville had 121 yards rushing and 11 yards passing. R.C. Hatch lost to Hale County 45-24.

at Sulligent (1-5, 1-3)
Breakdown: Dementrius Williams scored Francis Marion’s only touchdown in a 22-6 loss to Cold Springs, which intercepted three passes. Ladaberick threw touchdown passes to Rocky Sides and Deion Jenkins in Sulligent’s 21-13 loss to Oakman.

Breakdown: Grant Stevens threw two touchdown passes and ran for a score in Hale County’s win over R.C. Hatch. Aaron Sheffield and Jay Payne each had a touchdown catch, and Charles Yawn ran for two touchdowns. C.J. Byrd and Blake Williams each had a touchdown run.

Breakdown: Dallas Cockerham threw a touchdown pass and ran for two scores in Lamar County’s win over Aliceville. Cockerham gained 108 yards rushing. Tim Harton caught a touchdown pass, and Alex Wheeler, Kendall Smith and Landon Williams each had a touchdown run.
Carroll’s prediction: Lamar County 34, Cold Springs 19

at Akron (4-2, 2-2)
Breakdown: Johnny Tubbs threw three touchdown passes in Akron’s 29-27 loss to Sunshine. Quinn Jeffery had two touchdown catches, and Demarcus Morris had one. Derion Jack rushed for 112 yards and scored Akron’s last touchdown on a 3-yard run. Jaylon Ruffin had six tackles. Keith beat Billingsley 33-6.

Breakdown: Terrance "Tank" Hollingsworth rushed for 300 yards and scored five touchdowns in Berry’s 46-20 win over Brilliant. Hollingsworth scored on runs of 34, 70, 14, 46 and 13 yards. J.C. Finch scored on interception returns of 44 and 40 yards. Zac Pasley had 12 tackles. Clancy Brown, who gained 94 yards, recorded 11 tackles. Lynn lost to Marion County 42-18.

at Sunshine (1-5, 1-3)
Breakdown: Derrick Garnett and Garrett Anderson each had a rushing touchdown in Holy Spirit’s 38-14 loss to Autaugaville. Michael Al-Dijaili had 87 yards rushing and more than 70 yards on kick returns. Michael Al-Keonta Edwards caught three touchdown passes in Sunshine’s win over Akron.
Carroll’s prediction: Sunshine 26, Holy Spirit 21
Pickens County (6-0, 4-0) at Hubbertville (4-2, 2-2)
Breakdown: Pickens County’s Jermarcus Brown rushed for 315 yards and all four touchdowns in a 28-0 win over Parrish. Brown scored on runs of 88, 37, 81 and 14 yards. Chris Hill had 12 tackles and three sacks. Terrien Steele had 10 tackles and four sacks. Aaron Dillard and Corey Stewart scored two touchdowns each in Hubbertville’s 41-7 win over South Lamar. Dillard gained 105 yards rushing. Stewart rushed for 55 yards.

Breakdown: Anthony Robinson gained 123 yards and scored two touchdowns in Linden’s 34-0 victory over A.L. Johnson. Robinson scored on runs of 14 and 81 yards. Jalen Lewis and Jamal Lewis each had a touchdown run. Santerrious Jones recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown. Linden held A.L. Johnson to 23 total yards. Marengo lost to St. Luke’s 54-0.

Breakdown: Canaan Fleming ran for 75 yards, recorded four tackles and intercepted a pass in South Lamar’s loss to Hubbertville. Herschel Smith scored South Lamar’s touchdown on a 5-yard run. Jason Lawson had 13 tackles for the South Lamar defense.

Breakdown: John Essex lost to J.U. Blacksher 39-6. John Essex head coach Jerome Antone resigned, and Brad Daniels, the offensive coordinator, will fill in as head coach.

Tuscaloosa Acad. (7-0, 4-0) at Glenwood (5-2, 4-1)
Breakdown: Jonathan Plott threw four touchdowns passes and ran for a score in Tuscaloosa Academy’s 55-23 win over Bessemer Academy last Thursday. Plott threw a 71-yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Teesdale on the second play from scrimmage. Plott completed 11 of 16 passes for 173 yards. Terrell Bush recovered three fumbles, returning one for a touchdown. Glenwood beat Macon East Academy 21-12.

Breakdown: Clayton Hall ran for 102 yards and two touchdowns in Southern Academy’s 56-27 loss to Patrician Academy. Jacob Rose rushed for 109 yards and scored a touchdown. Rose also had eight tackles. South Choctaw Academy lost to Escambia 27-7.

Breakdown: Josh Lewis rushed for 183 yards and scored two touchdowns in Pickens Academy’s 28-16 victory over Marengo Academy. Lewis threw a touchdown pass to Sam Beachler. Joel Pratt rushed for 91 yards and scored on a 40-yard run. Meadowview Christian lost to Cornerstone Christian 63-22.

Sparta Academy (3-4, 2-2) at Marengo Acad. (4-3, 3-1)
Breakdown: Hayden Huckabee leads Marengo Academy with 576 yards rushing and six touchdowns. Josh Hollifield has 549 yards rushing and five touchdowns. Brant Lewis has 506 yards rushing and four touchdowns. Shade Pritchett has 17 receptions for 239 yards and three touchdowns. Sparta Academy beat Jackson Academy 41-34.

Breakdown: Austin Dirksen, who caught a touchdown pass from Blake Dial, scored on a 4-yard run and a 60-yard punt return in Sumter Academy’s 56-8 win over Eastwood Christian. Dial ran for 50 yards and caught two passes for 24 yards. Christopher Yonker rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns.

Breakdown: Matthew Robertson scored on a 10-yard reception and ran for a two-point conversion in North River Christian Academy’s 54-8 loss to Tabernacle Christian. Robertson had five catches for 72 yards. Victory Christian beat Flint Hill Christian 61-0 on Sept. 28.
