Central wins tri-match; Northside loses first match

TUSCALOOSA | The Central High School volleyball team hosted a tri-match on Thursday with Northside and Holy Spirit and won both matches.
Central handed Northside its first loss of the season with a 25-13, 27-25, 15-4 win. Leading the win were Angelica Weatherspoon with 14 assists and four kills, Alexis Reed with eight kills, Crystalyn Bouyer with eight kills and five assists, D’Leisha Dent with six kills, Brekell May with eight digs and Brandie Fields with 11 digs.
For Northside, Ashton Welborn had eight kills and one block, Ryleigh Malone had 10 digs, Sam Aldridge had two aces, six kills, four digs and five blocks, and Bethann Bullard had 15 assists and two digs.
Central defeated Holy Spirit in straight sets 25-18, 25-14 with Weatherspoon’s nine assists, four kills and three digs; five kills from Reed, three kills and four digs from Aleah McKinstry, and 12 digs from Fields.
Caroline Sisson had seven kills and three digs for Holy Spirit. Andie Gamble had eight kills. Grace Anne Lake had two kills, Madeline Whitaker had 15 assists and one ace, and Abby Mitchell had two aces and four digs.
Northside defeated Holy Spirit 25-19, 25-22. Mikaela Terry had 15 assists and one dig for the Lady Rams. Kassidy Moore had nine digs, Savannah Harper had six kills and five digs, and Diana Fuller had four aces, seven kills and four digs.
For Holy Spirit, Sisson had eight kills and three digs. Gamble had five kills, two aces and one block. Olivia Kapera had eight digs. Lake had two kills, and Whitaker had 11 assists, one ace and one block.
Northside is now 15-1 as it prepares to host the AHSAA Class 3A, Area 7 tournament on Thursday. Holy Spirit (9-21) plays again on Tuesday at Shades Mountain Christian, and Central (19-14) returns to action on Thursday in the Class 5A, Area 7 tournament which Brookwood is hosting.

TUSCALOOSA | Brookwood defeated Tuscaloosa County 25-19, 25-21, 25-23 on Tuscaloosa County’s Senior Night. Stats leaders for Brookwood included Kalie Cagle with one dig, 34 assists and one ace; Layne Russell with one ace, one assists, 10 kills and one block; Bethany Williams with one ace and 13 kills; and Caitlin headrick with four digs, 10 kills and one block.
For Tuscaloosa County, Jamie Robertson had five kills, two aces and two blocks. Savannah Ellis had four kills and two blocks. Senior Lauryn Clardy had three kills and one block. Alex Smith had three kills and three aces, and Lauren Sevenish had 18 assists.
Brookwood is now 24-1 as it prepares to host the AHSAA Class 5A, Area 7 tournament on Thursday. Tuscaloosa County (11-15) still has one regular season match remaining which will be at Briarwood Christian on Tuesday.
Fayette County 3,
FAYETTE | Fayette County won in straight sets, 24-22, 25-12, 25-9 against visiting Sulligent.
Carlee Burgett had 21 digs, seven kills, one block and five service aces for Fayette County. Kristin McCaffery had 13 kigs, four kills, four blocks and two aces, and Autumn Bonner had 14 digs and seven kills.
For Sulligent, Laura Dean had six kills, three digs and one block. Molly Merchant had two kills, one ace and nine assists, and Malika Bolton had two kills and four digs.
Sulligent will host South Lamar on Tuesday. Fayette County (14-10, 4-2) now readies for the AHSAA Class 3A, Area 7 tournament which is hosted by Northside on Thursday.
