Morgan Academy ends TA’s season

SELMA | The Tuscaloosa Academy volleyball team pushed Tuesday’s match to four games but lost to Morgan Academy in the AISA Class AAA playoffs.
Morgan Academy won the first game 25-15. Tuscaloosa Academy won the second by a score of 25-22. The Lady Senators won 25-18 in the third game and 25-12 in the fourth.
Kaci Cochran had 24 digs, four kills and two assists for Tuscaloosa Academy. Shelby Curry had 16 digs, four kills and two aces. Rachael Fincher had 14 digs, three kills and three blocks. Chassiti Kimbrell had seven digs, four blocks, three kills and two aces.
Tuscaloosa Academy finished with a 13-6 record under the direction of first-year coach Anita Walker.
"Of course, I’d like to win all the games, but this was the first year most of these players had played together," Walker said. "I am very proud of all their hard work and commitment and their accomplishments this year. They made a lot of improvement.
"We wanted to go to state like everybody else. We hung in there and had a good season record. I’m very proud of the girls."
Holy Spirit splits two
BIRMINGHAM | After losing to Donoho, the Holy Spirit volleyball team closed out the regular season by defeating host Shades Mountain Christian.
Holy Spirit (10-20) won by scores of 25-22 and 25-16. Andie Gamble had six kills for the Lady Titans. Madeline Whitaker had seven assists, five digs and three kills. Caitlin Shortall had four kills and four digs. Olivia Kapera had seven digs.
Whitaker had seven assists in Holy Spirit’s 25-15, 25-12 loss to Donoho. Caroline Sisson had two kills and two blocks for Holy Spirit. Brooke Kosloff and Andie Gamble had two kills each. Whitaker posted seven assists. Shortall had five digs and two kills.
Holy Spirit plays Pickens County on Thursday in the AHSAA Class 1A, Area 9 tournament at Marion County High School in Guin.
