ADAMSVILLE | Riley Nix threw three touchdown passes and Jertavious Sanders added 125 yards rushing on 11 carries as the Hillcrest Patriots ended Minor’s playoff hopes with a 28-7 victory in Class 6A, Region 5 action Friday night.
Nix threw touchdown passes of 20 and 67 yards to Caleb Campbell and 17 yards to Darnell Webb. The touchdown passes came on third-and-20, second-and-26 and third-and-6.
Hillcrest led 14-0 at the half and 28-0 before Minor added a touchdown with 2:45 remaining on a 30-yard pass from Mondarius Griggs to Jabri King.
Minor (2-7, 2-5) had 15 plays of more than 10 yards and six possessions in Hillcrest territory but came away with only a late fourth-quarter touchdown.
“Turnovers and penalties killed us again,” Minor coach Randy Cook said. “We haven’t put together a complete game all season. It seems we find a way to shoot ourselves in the foot, and we did it again tonight.”
The Tigers turned the ball over three times and had 10 penalties for 77 yards.
Hillcrest (5-4, 4-3) travels to Demopolis on Thursday night.
