Northside's Grant, Travis team up for 541 yards, 8 touchdowns

SAMANTHA | Zarrian Grant and A.J. Travis combined for 541 yards rushing and eight touchdowns as the Northside Rams rolled over Oak Grove 54-41 Friday night.
Grant finished with five touchdowns and Travis pushed across three rushing touchdowns. Grant also had two interceptions on defense.
Travis scored on a 25-yard rush to get the scoring started. Grant rushed for a 70-yard score to cut an Oak Grove lead to 14-12. Late in the first half, Grant scored on runs of 69 and 65 yards to take give the Rams a 35-28 halftime advantage.
“Our offensive line has been doing a great job all year,” Northside coach Chris Hilliker said. “We got a couple of 1,000-yard rushers in the backfield. They just went out and worked hard.”
Grant then scored on a 53-yard run to give the Rams control of the game at 41-28. After the Tigers cut the lead to 41-35, Grant scored again on a 56-yard touchdown rush to give the Rams a 47-35 lead.
“It’s amazing. I look up to him and he looks up to me,” Grant said of Travis. “We do our little thing and hope to keep winning.”
Travis scored the Rams’ final points on a 66-yard touchdown run to push the lead to 54-35.
Daniel Murkerson scored three touchdowns for Oak Grove.
“It’s huge for us. We hadn’t had a winning season since 1994 and we are 6-4,” Hilliker said. “We’re going to go to Trinity next week and give them all we got.”
Oak Grove finishes the year at 2-8. The Rams will play on the road against Trinity Presbyterian in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs next Friday night.
